Got a day to spare?  Come with us and we'll show you round Coastal and Inland Otago.  You can choose to go north to the weird but wonderful Moeraki Boulders, or head south to the Catlins for some amazing wild scenery and wildlife...  Or, do both on consecutive days!

 

THE CATLINS, OWAKA, & SOUTH OTAGO

Explore the beautiful coastline south of Dunedin.

Travelling directly to Balclutha we head toward Kaka Point and Nugget Point where we take a 30 minute return walk to the lighthouse for spectacular coastal views. This area is home to numerous wildlife including the Fur Seal, Elephant Seals, Sea Lions, Yellow Eyed Penguins and many other bird species.  We will stop for lunch at a local Cafe (additional to tour cost).

A short trip through to beautiful Cannibal Bay/Surat Bay area where Sea Lions often rest is followed by a visit to the very popular Purakaunui Falls.  This is an easy 20min return walk through impressive Podacarp and Beech Forest.

We return to Dunedin stopping briefly at the Whale fossil lookout overlooking Lake Waihola and arrive back in the City at approximately 3.30 - 4pm.

MOERAKI BOULDERS & NORTH OTAGO

Enjoy a leisurely drive along the scenic coastline North of Dunedin to Karitane, and the famous Moeraki Boulders.  

Travelling from Dunedin we follow the coastline from Waitati & Warrington to the small seaside settlement of Karitane. Amazing photo opportunities from lookout.

We continue to follow the Coast Road through to Moeraki where we stop for Lunch or a snack (Additional to tour cost) and take in the glorious views from the Cafe.  It is a short 5 minute walk down to the Beach for more photo opportunies and to view the amazing Moeraki Boulders, and if you wish, visit the gift shop.

We return to Dunedin along State highway 1 arriving at approx. 2 - 2.30pm

maniototo - middlemarch, ranfurly & naseby

 We depart  Dunedin and travel over Three Mile Hill taking in stunning views of the Taieri Plains as we head toward Outram.  Continuing through the magnificent Taieri Gorge area, on the way to the small township of Middlemarch where the Otago Central Rail Trail starts (or ends).

We follow the Trail through the Maniototo district, and then on to the Art deco township of Ranfurly for lunch (additional to Tour cost) . There will be time to wander around some of the Art deco and craft shops in the town.

Travelling on to Naseby which, at 2000ft above sea level, is the highest town in NZ.  In approx 1863 gold was discovered in the area, and much of the town centre has been preserved from this era, and is often referred to as the  'Jewel of the Maniototo'. 

From Naseby we travel back  via the Pigroot & Palmerston, onto State Highway 1, and return along the coast, with spectacular views as we enter Dunedin.
