We depart Dunedin and travel over Three Mile Hill taking in stunning views of the Taieri Plains as we head toward Outram. Continuing through the magnificent Taieri Gorge area, on the way to the small township of Middlemarch where the Otago Central Rail Trail starts (or ends).
We follow the Trail through the Maniototo district, and then on to the Art deco township of Ranfurly for lunch (additional to Tour cost) . There will be time to wander around some of the Art deco and craft shops in the town.
Travelling on to Naseby which, at 2000ft above sea level, is the highest town in NZ. In approx 1863 gold was discovered in the area, and much of the town centre has been preserved from this era, and is often referred to as the 'Jewel of the Maniototo'.
From Naseby we travel back via the large opencast gold mine at Macraes, before heading back to Palmerston, onto State Highway 1, and return along the coast, with spectacular views as we enter Dunedin.
We finish our journey by returning you back to the Cruise Ship terminal, or back to the central city where you can continue to explore the city on your own.
